As the first post on this site, I wanted to take a moment to reflect on positivity. The scientific benefits of a positive outlook have been established. But there is nothing at all healthy about always denying the negative events that happen in our lives. There are things that happen to us and around us that cause irritation, that cause worry and frustration, and that cause grief. Each of these are legitimate feelings. Each of us has a right to these feelings. When I first starting thinking of sharing the resources I’ve collected, I worried that maybe I wasn’t the right person to share these things. After all, I still struggle daily with maintaining an optimistic outlook. When stressed, my first reaction is usually a sarcastic comment, an eye-roll or a sigh loaded with every unspoken judgment in the universe. And in all likelihood I’m not the perfect messenger. But the message is more important than me, and there is value and learning in the journey I take every day. I hope you will join me in embracing imperfection, learning why somedays a positive outlook is as easy as sunshine and daisies, and others it’s hope for a rainbow at the end of a hurricane. I am not trying to be the clam, who is always happy. And I have a sneaking suspicion that clam has some interesting things to tell his therapist……
